A History of Evangelism in North America
If you’re a fan of evangelism or history (or both!), then this book will be greatly enjoyed by you. This book is a tour of men and movements that have contributed to evangelism methodologies in North America from the early 1700’s up until today.
This book contains 22 chapters that are all written by different contributors. There are chapters on Jonathan Edwards, David Brainerd, John Wesley, George Whitefield, S.M. Lockridge, Billy Graham, Bill Bright, and even John Piper. It really does cover a lot of history, people, and movements.
I appreciated how well-researched the book was. It is certainly an academic work. Yet, I think many Christians will love this book, even those who aren’t typically reading academic works. Why do I say that? It’s because the book combines the academic rigor with real Gospel faithfulness and a genuine concern with faithful Gospel proclamation for today. I think many people will be encouraged and challenged by this book, and motivated to follow the godly example of the men in this book (while also avoiding their mistakes; I appreciate how criticism is offered in this book so as not to infer that these men were perfect in any way).
I think this work is a wonderful blessing to the church, and one that will motivate others to continue the good work of taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth, including right here in North America. Tolle lege, take up and read!

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
