About the Author – Tim Chester
Tim Chester has become one of my favorite authors over this past year. His theology is Reformed, making it trustworthy to me (as one who adheres to the Westminster Standards), and his writing is clear and easy for anybody to understand. This volume is a great testimony of that.
Exodus For You
There are 15 chapters in this book and 277 pages (when you include the bibliography and appendix). I was very impressed with how much territory Chester covered in under 300 pages! Exodus is a very long book (40 chapters), and Chester works through the whole book exegetically in only 15 chapters. It’s not intended to be an exhaustive, scholarly commentary, and yet the book includes much that does appear in other, more exhaustive commentaries.
I really appreciate how Chester drives the main point of the passage home to the heart of the reader. For instance, as I read Chester’s chapter on the account of the golden calf, he made it very evident that I am not much different than Aaron and the Israelites. He reminded me that I, too, commit idolatry quite often, and I am in desperate need of mediation just as Israel desperately needed Moses to mediate on their behalf. I need the mediation of a greater, perfect High Priest, namely Jesus Christ! The reader will greatly benefit from Chester’s excellent, biblical teaching and prudent application.

I love the covers of these books! This volume is my favorite out of the “God’s Word For You” series. It’s a red hardcover book with the normal “Read, Feed, and Lead” title, but this one has a subtle addition: lamb’s blood around the top and side of the cover of the book, symbolizing the blood of the lamb that was to be smeared on the door frames during the 10th plague, known as Passover.
Conclusion
I can’t recommend this volume highly enough! Chester is an excellent bible teacher as well as a physician of the soul. I enjoy reading his works. Tolle, lege! Take up and read!
