Galatians: The Christian Standard Commentary
This volume on Galatians was originally released in the New American Commentary series (NAC). NAC is being rebranded as the Christian Standard Commentary. Galatians is one of the first to showcase the new look! It is also worth noting that this is not a major revision, but there are certainly some updates and revisions provided by George. For instance, George has included a renewed interaction with the New Perspective on Paul (which just doesn’t seem to want to leave us alone).
George is a wonderful scholar and a true gift to the church today. The first printing of his commentary on Galatians was released over 25 years ago, and it has been received as a fine work on this incredibly important Pauline epistle. The update is a very welcomed edition. He writes in a wonderful way that will be understandable to laymen as well as pastors. If you want to grow in your understanding of this letter, George provides an excellent resource to look to. The main body of George’s work is devoid of any Greek, but all the Greek terms have been transliterated. However, for those who are wanting to interact with the original languages, you will still be able to find Greek in the footnotes. This is a nice balance in my opinion.
I greatly appreciated the look and format of this new series. It is very simple! Each section begins with an outline, and that is followed by a verse by verse treatment of the text. Each chapter and verse is to be found in bold, making it very easy to find a specific verse for reference. As far as aesthetics are concerned, this new look is a major improvement upon the NAC series in my opinion. The hardcover book is a grayish color with white print on the spine. The Christian Standard Version logo is found on the front and spine of the book. It’s (again) a very simple and yet elegant design. The dustjacket is a very nice blue color with white print. I think it’s a nice look on my bookshelves!
This is an excellent commentary to have on your bookshelves, ready to be referenced when dealing with Galatians or the incredibly important topics that are found there (i.e. justification by faith alone). I highly recommend this volume to you! Tolle lege, take up and read!

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
