God Made Me Unique: Helping Children See Value in Every Person
This book is an excellent way to teach children how to value others that are different from them. God Made Me Unique uses stories to teach children (and adults for that matter!) that all people are created unique, and that means that we are not at all the same. It also covers different abilities that people have been given by the Lord, as well as different disabilities that people have been given by the Lord.
The author utilizes God’s Word to teach very important truths, such as 1 Corinthians 12:20-21 (which teaches that there is one body with many parts that all need each other) and Psalm 139:13 (teaching us that God is the Creator who made us all with great care, including our abilities and disabilities).
I really appreciate the Foreword that is given by Joni Earekson Tada who most certainly understands this topic well. She has thankfully begun a wonderful ministry that aims to help the church better understand how to love and serve families that have been affected by disability.
I am likewise thankful for the “Four Ways to Help Your Child Understand Uniqueness and Disability as Part of God’s Plan” at the back of the book. This section is a must-read for parents, guardians, or any other loved one who is reading this book to a child. It’s such a helpful tool!
I highly recommend this book to every parent and church as a way of teaching our little ones how to honor the Lord and those made in His image!

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
