About the Author: Josh Moody
This was my first time reading anything by Moody, the senior pastor of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois. I found him to be very similar to the other authors that have contributed to the “God’s Word for You” series. He knows how to rightly handle the Word of God, and he also shows himself to be a wise pastor who knows how to help others apply the Word of God to the heart and life of the believer.
John For You
The goal of this 2-volume set on the Gospel of John is to be the following:
- Bible centered
- Christ glorifying
- Relevantly applied
- Easily readable
- To be read (cover to cover)
- To feed (for personal application and transformation)
- To lead (helping the reader to teach others the contents of this book)
Layout and Content
I like that the verse numbers are bold, making it very easy to find a specific verse or passage. This is especially helpful when using the book as a reference when preparing for teaching or when just wanting to look up a verse that you’ve read.
The reader will also enjoy the glossary in the back of the book. If you are reading and come across a word that is gray (indicating a word that is not typically used in everyday language outside of the church), you can find it in the glossary.
As in all the other volumes in this series, Moody does an excellent job of providing excellent Bible teaching in a rather concise manner. Both John For You volumes combined equal less than 400 pages! Most works on the Gospel of John are much longer than that (and they definitely serve a great purpose). These books are filled with great teaching on John without going into the details that many commentaries often do. But don’t let that fool you; this doesn’t mean that Moody just does a fly by over the text. He covers a lot of territory!
Conclusion
I love the Gospel of John, and I love this set produced by The Good Book Company. Grab these books and enjoy learning from Moody.
Tolle, lege! Take up and read!

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
