Lexham Press has produced a book that is unlike anything I have ever seen! It is totally unique in the world of New Testament studies (at least as far as I know). The book is titled Journeys of the Apostle Paul. There are many competent New Testament scholars who have contributed to this book, including Craig Keener, Joseph Dodson, Caryn Reeder, Stephen Witmer, and many more.

Journeys of the Apostle Paul
Journeys of the Apostle Paul is a hardcover with beautiful glossy pages, coming in at over 150 pages. The photos are beautiful and in color; the artwork is finely done; the maps are easy to read and helpful in seeing where Paul was going. The tables are really helpful in communicating information about Paul, his writings, and his journey. This is by the far the neatest book I have ever seen on Paul and his missionary journeys.
This book works though five main sections:
- The Journey to Damascus
- The First Missionary Journey & The Jerusalem Council
- The Second Missionary Journey
- The Third Missionary Journey
- The Journey to Rome
A feature that I really like is found on all of the odd numbered pages. At the very top of the right margin of the page is the word “Damascus.” Under that is Antioch. As you work through the journeys, each place that Paul visits is listed, until you get to Rome at the very bottom of the page. It helps you to track his journey, and may even help you to memorize where he has gone by the time you get to the end of the book (since you see this tracker on just about every odd-numbered page).
The information provided in this book is quite comprehensive. I’m amazed at all of the information that has been provided. Each “chapter” is based on a passage, and the book moves from Acts 9 all the way through Acts 28. Each “chapter” is rather short, but it packs a strong punch. The book could definitely be read from cover to cover, but it certainly doesn’t need to be read that way. This book could be used as a reference book in which a particular passage is consulted when needed.
This book by Lexham is beautiful, unique, informative, comprehensive, and would be an excellent addition to every Christian’s library! I highly recommend it.

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
