Laughing at the Days to Come: Facing Present Trials and Future Uncertainties with Gospel Hope
The author of this book shares her personal story of trial and suffering in the very first chapter of the book. Her hearing was taken away by a rare neurological disease, and chronic pain and other health complications would ensue. Chapter two continues her story of finding hope and help from God’s Word. She was handed a piece of paper with one verse on it: Proverbs 31:25 which says this: Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She also looks at Psalm 2 and the laughter of God as well as other passages that deal with laughter. In these verses, Thompson finds a Redeemed laughter that offered her hope in the midst of suffering. Chapters 3 and 4 continue Part One of the book as it seeks to define laughter from God’s Word.
Part Two is on the doctrine of laughter, with Part Three being the “doing” of laughter.
Thompson’s book is very Gospel-rich, and she proves to be a wonderful teacher of the Word of God. She has no problem at all connecting Scripture to real life suffering, and she points the reader to the only true, lasting, hope that is found in the Lord.
I think that this book will be a great encouragement to many women! It’s real, it’s gentle, it’s personal, it’s hope-giving, it’s thoroughly gospel-oriented. For these reasons, it’s a joy for me to recommend this book to you.

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
