Preaching the Word with John Chrysostom
This is an excellent book on a man that is not often discussed today by most Christians, and that is to our detriment. Therefore, this book is needed and much welcomed. To make it even better, though, Bray is a great writer who is able to communicate weighty matters in a manner that all will understand. This is a great benefit to the book.
This book comes in at just over 100 pages, making it very accessible to any and all Christians. Bray breaks the book up into 5 chapters:
- John the Man
- In the Beginning
- John’s Portrait of Jesus
- In the Footsteps of Paul the Apostle
- The Legacy
Chapters 1 and 3 were my personal favorites. I enjoyed reading a mini biography of John of Antioch, and it was also interesting to read about his hermeneutical principles, mindset, and his works. Somehow, Bray placed all of these things in one chapter very successfully. Though the book is short, it is packed full of great content!
I think this book will be a great blessing to preachers, teachers, and anybody who would like to learn from a hero of the faith who has gone before us. I highly recommend it!
Tolle lege, take up and read!

Reviews of Commentaries by Lexham Press:
Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
