The Diary and Journal of David Brainerd is published by the Banner of Truth. This is a one-volume edition of the original 2-volume work published by Andrew Melrose in 1902. The main difference between this edition and the 1902 edition is the addition of Jonathan Edwards’ Some Reflections and Observations on the Proceeding Memoirs of David Brainerd.

The Diary and Journal of David Brainerd
This is such a fascinating book! First of all, Jonathan Edwards wrote the introduction and the preface. That alone makes this book worth the purchase.
But second, and most of all, David Brainerd’s diary and journal is such a blessing to the Christian soul. Not only was this man striving for holiness, but his heart for the North American Indians of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts resembles that of His Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. It will be very contagious to the Christian, motivating them toward a life of godliness and love for the lost.
As I read about Brainerd’s interaction with the Indians and the experience of preaching to them, I was astounded. Here we have a firsthand account of what it was like to take the Gospel to the North American Indians! Brainerd mentions his fears, his hardships, and the blessings of seeing individuals experience conversion. It was an absolute thrill to read about Brainerd’s Gospel mission.
I think this book is a gift to the church, and one that will certainly increase the reader’s love for God and love for the mission of God, namely the Great Commission. May many read and benefit from David Brainerd’s life and mission! Tolle lege, take up and read!
