The Last Valley: A Story of God’s Grace in Terminal Illness
This is a very nice small book (coming in at just about 100 pages) about the author’s own personal story, specifically of his wife and her journey home to be with the Lord, and the way in which the Lord upheld the author as he walked through the valley of the shadow of death alongside his late wife. The story is provided with the hope of serving others who have or will go through a similar situation, especially in regards to terminal illness.
I almost felt constantly surprised that Heaps was willing to share such an intimate and personal story with others. He has surely impacted many by doing so, and therefore I’m glad that he did. This book is filled with incredible detail, almost as if it were a journal entry meant for his eyes only. But the blessing of that approach is that it is so real and so raw that it magnifies the grace of the Lord that was shown in such difficult times. For this reason, Heaps has served other Christians well!
I have a feeling that many will read this book in one sitting, as they’ll be unable to put it down. I gladly commend it to you.

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
