Write It On Their Hearts: Practical Help for Discipling Your Kids
This was a very enjoyable book to read through. Chris Swain was clearly the right guy to write this book. He served as a youth pastor, disciple-making pastor, and CEO of Replicate Ministries (which focuses on discipleship). The foreword by Robby Gallaty as well as the last chapter of this book reveals that Chris Swain passed into glory in 2021 (right before this book was published). Robby Gallaty mentions that this book “is not just a resource to read and put on a shelf. It’s a manifesto Chris and his wife, Melissa, lived by.” It makes reading this book a very special experience.
The book consists of seven chapters which focus on discipling children like Jesus did, showing them you love them, teaching them to pray, connecting with them, teaching them to read the Bible, holding them accountable, and teaching them to rest. Τhe book is filled with stories from Chris’s own life and parenting which provide excellent illustrations for what he is trying to teach. The book is also filled with diagrams that are helpful in understanding the material. I also appreciated the “Write It On Their Hearts” section that was included at the end of every chapter. This section provided very practical and helpful advice on how to put into action the teaching of that particular chapter.
This book is sure to provide much help to Christian parents. I hope that many will pick up this book and learn from Chris and Melissa Swain as they have sought to obey God’s Word in discipling children.

Matt became a joyful follower of Jesus at the age of 21. He is very grateful to be a husband to Lindsey, and a father to four boys. He is an ordained minister (teaching elder) in the PCA. He previously served as a pastor of biblical counseling and is currently a corporate chaplain in southern Delaware. Matt received his Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds an advanced certification in biblical counseling from the Association of Biblical Counselors. In his free time, he loves playing with his boys, traveling with his wife, and reading (and buying!) books.
